New mid-week flight from South Africa to St Helena
In addition to the regular Saturday flight, a new mid-week service will be operating from Johannesburg to St Helena between December and April. This will allow for stays of three, four or ten nights on the island instead of seven or fourteen at present. The new mid-week flight schedules will be published by Airlink shortly.
At present the Saturday service departs from Johannesburg at 09.00 and arrives at St Helena at 13.15 with a short stop en route at Windhoek, Namibia, a total journey time of 6 hours and 15 minutes. On the second Saturday of each month the flight continues to Ascension Island.
The return service departs from Jamestown St Helena at 14.30 and arrives at Johannesburg at 21.15, a total flight duration of 4 hours 45 minutes. This flight is usually on a Saturday, with the exception of the second weekend in each month, when it is on a Sunday.
St Helena is one of the remotest islands in the world and is where Napoleon was exiled following his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. His residence, Longwood House, has been carefully restored over the last few years. St Helena is also home to the world’s oldest living reptile, Jonathan the Tortoise.
